Today, I am thankful for my Dad!!  It is his birthday and he is 79 years old.  I am grateful that he is still here in Ohio and that I got to spend time with him this weekend.  He has been a great Dad and I have been blessed.
Happy Birthday, Dad!!!  I love you and thank God for you!!

Vitamin D3

I have read a lot of stuff about Vitamin D.  Last year about this time, we started taking it in supplement form.  Dr. Mercola says to take Vitamin D3.  We did not get the colds or flu that went around last year.  I am not sure this was the only factor, but I am sure it helped.  Please watch this video.

This is the brand we took.  We have done some research on different brands and are really happy with the Beeyoutiful line of products.  You can click on the picture below to take you to their site.  Their prices are good and shipping is lower than most places.

Healthy Snacks To Go!!

I have been watching the free webinars that GNOWFGLINS puts on each month.  I have really learned a lot.  I was actually asked to be part of one, but I did not have a microphone, so she just read somethings that I wrote out.  She hosted one today that had a guest from Kitchen Stewardship.  It was all about Healthy Snacks for your family.  She talked about frugality and time saving tips and lots of other things.  It was very informative.  I have now joined her site as an affiliate.  She has several ebooks, one of which is all about healthy snacks.

Click here to view more details on this book!

So often we hear people say they don't have time to cook from scratch.  The woman who shared has small children, in fact she had a 2 month old she had to hold through part of the webinar.  Cold and flu season is coming.  Choosing good whole and healthy foods including your snacks will help your family pass by some of the sickness going around.  :)

Country Life

Living in the country is like a gift to me.  I love to be surrounded by farm land.  When we get up in the morning to milk the cow, it is still dark.  We stand outside and look at the stars in the night sky.  It is so amazing!!!  We both saw a shooting star a couple of mornings ago.  Then we start calling the cow.  The Wonderful Neighbor's rooster starts crowing in their coop.  Pretty soon our rooster answers him and we get a rooster war going.  This morning we got a scare.  As we were walking back to the house, a black shadow darted out.  It was the WN's dog.  He had been over visiting ours.  He is black and did not show up right away.

Last evening, the sun was setting and the light on the trees and the field behind us was beautiful.  Autumn lighting is different somehow.  More diffused or something.  The bottom of the treeline was in darkness, but the top part of the trees were lit up by the sun.

I get to see this beautiful view out my back door.
Our cow, Clover has been over visiting a bull.  Michael brought her home last night.  She came home with an attitude.  They are having a stand off.  :)

Sunset From The Hill

We have had some beautiful sunsets recently.  Michael will be out moving and feeding the turkeys and see it from the hill.  He then comes in and tells me to grab the camera and go with him.  These are all the same sunset one night.  I kept zooming in on the sun.  I love the last picture.

I have so many things to be thankful for.  This week, my blessing is my friend Karen.  If you have read my blog for over a year you will remember my friend I had not seen in 34 years came to visit.  Well, she came back this year!!  We had a wonderful time again.  We did not do as much running around this year because it was cold and rainy.  That just gave us an excuse to sit and talk more.  We made cheddar cheese and butter one day and feta cheese another day.  We ate pumpkin bread and pumpkin ice cream.  While we were out one evening, I got my taste of pumpkin fudge for this year.  It was pumpkin and praline.  It had a layer of pralines between 2 layers of pumpkin fudge.  We shared the generous sample we were given.  It was a time of relaxation and enjoyment.  It is good to be able to spend time with a friend.

Today

Six years ago today my Mom did not wake up here on earth, but in heaven. I still miss her like crazy. I miss her prayers. This year the reminder I normally give is hard for me to say. I have a relationship in my life that is not where it needs to be. Sometimes you do what you need to and have to trust the Lord to work in the other person's heart. I do want to remind you though.... We are NOT promised a next breath or a tomorrow. Make right the things between you and others. Forgive them and try to move on even if they won't work with you. You do not want regrets.

I kept waking up early this morning. I always do on this day. I think "was she alive at this time?" I will have my moments of weeping, but I would not wish her back from where she is for anything. In fact it keeps my longing alive for the Lord's return when we will all be together again.

I am grateful for a personal God.  I don't have a religion, but I have a relationship with a living God who finds ways to speak to me.  I love His Word and how it can help as balm to a wounded heart, or encourage you when you are down, or give you words that help you rejoice in good times. I love how a friend will call, send a card or share something when you most need it.  I know those times are prompted by Him.

What are YOU thankful for?

General Store Autumn Give Away!!!

This contest was over at midnight on Saturday.  I will be drawing numbers today!!

Most of you who read here regularly, know that we have an online store.  We sell products for your homestead kitchen and products that we believe in and use ourselves.  Our store is called Amazing Graze Farm General StoreWe like to do giveaways through out the year.  We are going to do an Autumn give away.  There will be 3 separate prizes that will go to 3 separate individuals.  I will tell you a little bit about the prizes.
First of all, you know that we have Wonderful Neighbors.  :)  They have helped us out more times than I can count.  The other evening, the 3 oldest WN children had to help us round up our milk cow that decided she liked grazing fresh grass over coming in to be milked.  The oldest WN girl is a wonderful seamstress.  She does all sorts of neat projects and makes up wonderful patterns.  Her family recently went to Williamsburg, VA and she made outfits from thrift store finds for herself and her siblings.  I would show you a picture of her handiwork but I have to get permission from the WN Mama first.  Anyway, the WN girl makes aprons to order for our customers.  We have many pleased customers that have bought her aprons and loved them.  I asked her to make me one of her Scarecrow aprons for the giveaway.  This darling lady scarecrow will be sure to bring a smile to your face.  She even has a sunflower on her hat.  Here is a picture of the apron (sorry about the busy background).
Here is a close up of her face.  I love her little straw hair showing.
I know there are many of you who will want to have her for your very own.

Our second prize is one that I have many requests for.  I have one person that tries every trick in the book to win one of these when we have given them away (Hi Suzanne!).  The prize is a Tea Tumbler in Green and a 7 oz. package of Dandy Blend.  Suzanne loves the Tea Tumbler. I have one and use it often.  It is a double walled glass container that allows your drink to stay hot or cold, but does not sweat or burn your hands while holding it.  It also has a little strainer inside so that if you used a tea bag or loose tea, you could still drink it and not get the leaves or bag in your mouth.  We will be giving away a green one like the one shown below.

I am a coffee drinker.  I do not like flavored coffee at all.  Plain old strong black coffee is my choice.  I have tried different instant coffees, but I have not been impressed at all.  Dandy Blend is better than any of the coffee substitutes that I have ever tried.  I truly enjoy it.  It is Sugar-free, Dairy-free, Pesticide-free, Gluten-free, Low carb, Low calorie, Wheat-free, Fat-free, No acidity, Caffeine-free, No bitterness, Great coffee flavor, Mineral rich, Rich & Smooth, and High antioxidant.

...and potentially helpful for...

Celiacs and gluten intolerant, Diabetics, Competitive weight lifters, PMS sufferers, Asthma sufferers, Lowering high blood pressure, Macrobiotic dieters, Lowering high cholesterol, Helping with weight loss, Liver and gall bladder ailments, Gastroesophogeal reflux, Expectant mothers, Low carbohydrate dieters, Coronary artery and heart disease, Weight Watchers, Cancer sufferers!

Dandy Blend instant dandelion beverage is the only instant herbal coffee substitute in the United States that features both the health benefits of dandelion and the rich, full-bodied flavor, smoothness and texture of real coffee. Many say that, because it lacks bitterness and acidity, it actually tastes better than coffee.
We are giving away a 7.05 oz. pouch of Dandy Blend along with the Tea Tumbler.

The last prize is a tool that will help you for years to come.  If you have ever made tomato sauce or apple sauce, you will truly appreciate this tool.  If you have not made those things, you will love this tool since it makes it so easy to do.  We are going to be giving away one of our Victorio Food Strainers.
To make apple sauce, you simply wash your apples and quarter them.  You do not need to peel them or core them.  You put them in boiling water until soft and then throw them in the hopper and turn the handle.  The peels, seeds, stems and cores come out one end into a bowl (the chickens love this) and the rest of the apple comes out sauced and into another bowl.  Then you can either eat the sauce or can it.  I pick apples that need no sugar added and just can the sauce for eating all year.  Tomatoes are just as easy.

Those are the three prizes and here is how you can win one of them.  You can have multiple entries, but you have to leave a separate comment for each one.  I have already deleted one comment because there was no name and no way to get a hold of them.  Also, they put all their entries in one comment.

First entry and you have to do this one to even be included in the giveaway - Go to the store web page and leave a comment below and list one item you would like not including any of the items listed above.
Second entry - Leave a comment letting me know which of the above 3 prizes you would choose if you win.

Third entry - Post a link to this giveaway on Facebook and leave a comment saying you did.
Fourth entry - Post a link to this giveaway on Twitter and leave a comment saying you did.
Fifth entry - Send an email to at least 5 friends and give them a link to this giveaway and leave a comment saying you did.

Sixth entry - Make a post on your blog about the giveaway and include a link to your post in a comment below.

Seventh entry - If you make a purchase from the store from October 5th, 2011 through October 15th, 2011 and in the comments area mention this contest you will get 10 additional entries.
Help us spread the word!!  This contest will run until midnight (EST) October 15th, 2011.  The winners will be announced shortly after that.  Make sure that you leave a way for me to be able to get in touch with you if you are a winner.

Autumn Beauty

I believe that this Autumn has more color than any other one since we have lived in this house.  Our tree line was always kind of dull with only the brownish yellow of the Hickory trees.  This year it is simply gorgeous!!!

Some of these pictures are from our yard, some are from drives my sweet husband has taken me on.  We love to ride and view the colors.  Enjoy!!!

These next two show flowers growing right out of the face of a rock cliff.  A classic case of "Bloom where you are planted."

The field corn is all sunwashed and dried out ready to be harvested.  I love the way it looks and the rustling sound it makes as the wind passes through.

The next three pictures are of the tree line on our property.

The next five pictures are taken from the top of our hill looking back toward the house and barns and over toward our neighbors field.

I hope you enjoyed the Autumn colors.
